How to Capture Stunning Newborn Poses at Home

Ever dreamed of snapping your newborn’s tiny toes in perfect poses for your cute baby’s first year album but feel stuck with a fussy bub or no studio? I’ve been there—newbie days, wrestling wiggly bubs, stressing over why my shots didn’t look like the pros. After 10+ years, hundreds of bubs, and workshops with world-class photographer’s, I’ve got quick posing hacks (what those workshops missed!) to create heart-melting photos in a snap, no fancy gear needed! These work for mums, beginners, and pros—phone or DSLR, at home or studio. My free 30-min masterclass will have you posing like a pro in less than 30 mins!

Why Posing Wins Hearts

Safe, stunning poses create cherished memories, wow family, and fill albums without the worry of possibly hurting bubs in complicated poses. These hacks deliver:

  • Fast: 5 minutes to pose—no hours fussing.
  • Easy: Just a blanket and calm bub—no pricey props!
  • Wow: Gorgeous shots—mums treasure moments, pros land bookings!

Others might say you need a studio or pro skills—nah, my way’s simple, safe, and nails it. Let’s pose those newborns!

1. Try the holding outward to chest Pose

Struggle: Bubs won’t settle for cute poses.
Fix: Hold baby in your arms with their back up against your chest and tuck up their legs and fees, and gently hold them so legs curl inwards for a cozy, sleepy look. Then use the other hand to holds bubs hands close to their chest. Keep bub calm with a pacifier. Try my FREE masterclass for quick easy tips that have a big impact on your photography results!
Tip: try rest bubs hands on top of your hands so they’re peeking out – super cute extra detail (like in the pic below!)

2. Swaddle for a Side-Lying Pose

Struggle: Wiggly bubs ruin posed shots.
Fix: Swaddle bub tightly with a $5 Kmart wrap (like in my wrap video ), then lay them on their side with a folded towel for support. If bub need exptra support or comfort mum or dad can gently hold bub’s head. My $37 Baby Whispering Mini Course builds confidence to soothe even the fussiest bubs!
Tip: Use earthy tones—mums swoon, less likely to date!

3. Use a Basket for a Curled Pose

Struggle: No props for pro-style poses.
Fix: Place bub in a basket (one you might have at home!) lined with a blanket, curling their legs under for a snug, curled-up pose. Shoot in soft window light. Edit with my $27 Mobile Presets for vibrant pops.
Tip: Angle the basket for an intrigued gaze!

4. The Pro Secret – The Pose Lock (Tease!)

Struggle: Posing feels tricky and unsafe.
Fix: Here’s my trick: holding outward to chest poses, swaddles, and baskets create stunning shots in minutes! My free masterclass will have you posing like a pro in less time than your little one’s nap, plus you’ll master styling, lighting, and calming, inspired by Sheyne Rowley—check our incredible interview with Sheyne here!

Still feeling nervous? You're not alone.

Instant confirmation when you book online.

Almost every family tells me the same thing before their session —

    “We’re awkward in photos.”

And almost every family leaves saying,

“That was so much easier than we expected.”

You don’t need to know how to pose.

You don’t need a “perfect” baby. You don’t need to feel confident. That’s my job.

I gently guide you through every step so you can relax, slow down, and simply enjoy this season. Newborn sessions are best booked during pregnancy, as availability is limited each month.
