Want to snap adorable newborn pics right in your lounge room? I’ve been there—new mum, no pro studio, just a phone or camera and a wild urge to capture those tiny moments of my baby.
After 10+ years photographing hundreds of newborns and training with world-class pros, I’ve mastered easy achievable hacks those workshops missed, you don’t need a fancy camera—your mobile phone works a treat and using stuff you’ve got at home. Here’s five newborn photoshoot ideas any mum can style up, cozy and simple. Want more tricks? My free masterclass spills them in 30 mins!

1. Basket Babe Newborn Shoot
- What You Need: A basket (laundry, picnic, whatever), a blanket, maybe a flower or two.
- How: Pad the basket with a folded blanket, lay bub on top—legs tucked or stretched, whatever’s comfy. Drape another blanket loose or add a flower for cuteness. Snap with your phone or camera—steady it on a chair if you’re wobbly.
- Why It Works: Baskets are newborn gold—rustic, cozy, perfect for phone pics. Soft window light, and you’re sorted.

2. Blanket Bundle Photoshoot Ideas
- What You Need: Your fave stretchy wrap or scarf, a plain blanket backdrop.
- How: Wrap bub snug (see my wrap post for steps!), lay them on the blanket—side, back, or womb curl. Neutral tones, no loud patterns. Phone’s fine—prop it up for a clear shot.
- Why It Works: Wrapping calms bubs fast, and simple keeps their face the star—dreamy pics, even with a mobile.

3. Sibling Snuggle with Newborn
- What You Need: A big sib, a bed or rug, a soft blanket.
- How: Lay the blanket down, have big sib sit or lie with bub—arms around, cheek-to-cheek, real stuff. Snap from above or their level with your phone or camera—hold steady!
- Why It Works: Sibling love’s raw and adorable—phone pics nail it just as well as fancy gear. Natural light’s your mate.

4. Newborn photoshoot ideas with pets
- What You Need: Your fur baby, a blanket or mat, bub in a wrap.
- How: Lay bub on the blanket, let your pet (calm ones only!) sit close—paws near, sniffing, chilling. Hand on bub always—safety first with pets! Snap quick with your phone—rest it somewhere solid if needed. Or, sit down low or on the ground, hold bub outwards in your hands (babies head in your hands, resting on your knees), and let your pet come in to sniff and be close—grab a helper to snap this one with your phone or camera.
- Why It Works: Pets + newborns = “aww” overload. Phone’s perfect for this quick, safe grab—social media will eat it up.
5. Nest of Love Newborn Shoot
- What You Need: A bed, a few soft blankets, mum and dad’s hands (or just one!).
- How: Layer blankets on the bed to make a little nest—soft and snug. Lay bub in the middle, legs tucked or curled. Mum and dad rest their hands gently on bub—one on the head, one on bub’s legs holding them up. Snap with your phone or camera from above—get a helper to shoot so both hands can stay in. Solo? One lot of hands works too! If only one, use them to cradle bub’s legs up.
- Why It Works: Those big hands next to a tiny bub? Instant “remember how small” vibes—cozy, heartfelt, and phone-friendly.

Quick Tips for All
- Light: Big window, soft glow—no harsh sun. Early morning or late arvo’s magic.
- Phone Power: No fancy camera? Your mobile’s ace—steady it on a book, chair, anything to avoid blur if your’re shaky. Or holding your phone with both hands to reduce shake. My course is all about phone snaps too!
- Safety: Hand on bub, nothing heavy or risky—comfy rules.
