Others might push studio lights or expensive props—nah, my way’s cozy, real, and nails it. Let’s make those bub pics pop!
1. Use a Bright Blanket
- Struggle: Bland backgrounds—bub gets lost in the beige.
- Fix: Grab a colourful blanket—think soft pinks, sunny yellows, or cool blues. Lay your newborn on it for a cozy base. For older bubs (6 months+), let them sit or roll on it—snap mid-play!
- Tip: Pick a solid colour (no wild patterns)—it keeps the focus on bub’s sweet face! Also no bright bright colours that may reflect unflattering colour casts onto your babies skin like Reds for example.
2. Add a Pop with Clothes or wraps
- Struggle: Drab outfits or plain wraps—pics feel flat.
- Fix: Dress bub in something bright—a hat with a pop of colour, or even a tiny flower headband or a colourful wrap. For toddlers, go bold with a colourful bib —snap those giggles!
- Tip: Keep it simple— be careful not to overdo the bright colours – you often only need a small pop of colour in the accessories – or it becomes overwhelming the shot.
3. Catch the Light Right
- Struggle: Washed-out colours—everything looks muted.
- Fix: Shoot near a window in soft morning light—it boosts colours naturally. For newborns, angle them so the light hits their outfit or blanket. For 12-month-olds, let them crawl toward the window—vibrant and alive!
- Tip: Avoid harsh midday sun—soft light keeps colours rich, not faded.
