Why Props Wow Clients

Stunning props mean gorgeous shots, happy clients, and a standout portfolio. These hacks deliver:

  • Fast: 1 day (or less) to style—no endless shopping.
  • Easy: Just household items—no fancy gear needed!
  • Wow: Packed calendar—mums save memories, pros get happy customers!

Others might say you need expensive props—nah, my way’s simple and nails it. Let’s style those newborn shots!

1. Use Household Items

Struggle: Props cost too much.
Fix: Grab soft/knitted blankets, fluffy scarves or pillows, or a wicker basket from home for shoots at 9-9.30am when bubs are most settled (pic below of a cozy blanket shot!). Fold a neutral or earthy-toned blanket (like cream, pic below!) for a nest-like base, parent nearby. Wash items before use.

2. Shop Secondhand

Struggle: New props break the bank.
Fix: Check op shops or Buy/Swap/Sell groups for neutral or earthy-toned wraps, headbands, or knit hats under $5. For 6-month-olds, grab rompers in neutral or earthy tones for playful shots, keeping sessions to 20–30 mins to avoid overstimulation, parent nearby. Sanitize items before use.
Tip: Snag a $2 knit hat—it adds texture to close-ups!

3. DIY Simple Backdrops

Struggle: Boring backgrounds ruin shots.
Fix: Hang a $5 neutral curtain or bedsheet behind bubs for a clean look . Tape it to a wall for at-home shoots or use the window curtains as the backdrop (pic below of a curtain backdrop!).
Tip: Use a white or cream sheet for a soft, pro vibe and make sure sunlight isn’t directly beaming in creating harsh light or shadows (think shooting in shade is best).

Still feeling nervous? You're not alone.

Instant confirmation when you book online.

Almost every family tells me the same thing before their session —

    “We’re awkward in photos.”

And almost every family leaves saying,

“That was so much easier than we expected.”

You don’t need to know how to pose.

You don’t need a “perfect” baby. You don’t need to feel confident. That’s my job.

I gently guide you through every step so you can relax, slow down, and simply enjoy this season. Newborn sessions are best booked during pregnancy, as availability is limited each month.
